Spreadsheets
As part of Greg Colley Art Business Services, we offer spreadsheet creation for all your business needs. Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets, while not as multifaceted and flashy as custom art database reports, are probably the most common and affordable program for simple and easy-to-use art inventory documentation and record-keeping.
Excel spreadsheets are easily customizable, and on the following pages, we exhibit a couple of our sample inventory spreadsheets. We can customize any spreadsheet to meet your specific criteria.
Database Programs
The following section on “Database Management” (page 11) will address art-specific database programs; however, since inventory management is a significant application within these programs, we want to mention them here.
All database programs can print (PDF or paper copy) inventory spreadsheets or reports. Database programs can be art-specific programs designed for artists, collectors, and galleries or general business CRM (Contact Relationship Management) programs customized precisely for your business.
Managing or cataloging your inventory in a database program can be more costly and require more commitment to set up and maintain than simply cataloging your inventory in an Excel spreadsheet. However, database programs provide additional applications besides straightforward cataloging and record-keeping, such as CRM, cloud-based records and photography storage, website compatibility, invoicing, built-in marketing materials, and e-commerce integrations.
